3rd Assistant Director/Clapper - Irena Zilberman
Originally born in Ukraine but currently based in Melbourne, Irena has always been involved in the performing arts.
Her career began on the school stage, where she had main roles in the musicals Friends, Deliverance, Bugsy Malone and Annie. During her first year of university, Irena's interests shifted to production. In 2002, she worked as a set designer and builder for the Melbourne University Production of Relic by Caroline Heske; costume and make-up consultant on the St Martins Youth Arts Centre production of Rave New World; and stage manager for St Martins Season of International Work.
In 2003, she began studying film and photography, and realised quickly that this is her passion. She has since worked on many short films: in art department for the VCA production of The Faraway Tree by Gavin Youngs (2004), and the RMIT final year production of Clean (working title) by Neil Bilas (2004); as boom operator for Oscar Hernandez's Return (2004); 3rd AD for Sally McLean's Brigit and Benny: A Modern Faerietale (2004) and 2nd AD on Micah Sleeth's It's in the Voice (2005). She wrote and directed her own short film entitled Vomiting Out Nothing in 2004, and directed/edited a fifteen minute short called Wanting in 2005. At the moment, Irena is working as a DOP on a collaborative short film, being shot on 16mm.
Currently in her last year of Creative Arts at Melbourne University, Irena hopes to further develop her skills in film scriptwriting, directing, camera operating and editing; and is always on the lookout for new opportunities.
