Actor, screenwriter, director and producer, Sallys career behind the scenes began as a follow spot operator in the theatre. Running her professional acting career alongside her crew work, she went onto work as a make up artist, backstage crew, continuity, casting assistant, theatrical agency assistant, sound operator, autocue operator, production assistant, assistant director and assistant editor in theatre, film and television.
After graduating from The Actors Institute, London, she co-wrote and co-produced the successful 45 minute feature A Little Rain Must Fall, which premiered at Ealing Studios, London. During a return visit to Australia, she began her apprenticeship in directing for theatre under the guidance of New York theatre director, Andy Gale, working as his assistant during the Australian Premier of the off-Broadway musical, I Love You, Youre Perfect Now Change, at the Athenaeum Theatre, Melbourne, of which she was also a member of the cast. Her first play as writer/director, Chasing Pegasus - a Play in Ten Chords, premiered in December 2003 to a full house followed by her second play, the WW2 drama PS I Love You in August 2004 - again performing to a sell out crowd, as well as being featured on Local ABC Radio 774 and The Age newspaper's "Curtain Call" section.
Sallys current projects include working as screenwriter/creative producer on her first major feature film, Forever (working title), which is under representation with BrainBOW Productions in Sydney for production in the UK. She is also co-producer for the Australian feature film Heart (working title), written and produced by Jeff Richards, starring Jacinta Stapleton (Stingers) and Alan Fletcher (Neighbours), directed by VCA graduate, Jeremy Stanford. She completed her debut film as writer/director in 2003 on the short film fixNATION, intended for the International Film Festival circuit, and juggles her own work with her freelance paid gigs such as Production Coordinator at GTV Channel 9, among other things. Prior to this, she worked in production at the BBC, London in the Music & Arts and UKTV departments, during which time she chaired the Alternative Program Development Unit, submitting several successful program ideas for BBC1 and BBC2.
Sally is also a published poet and short fiction author, appearing in several international magazines and anthologies. She was recently named an International Poet of Merit and nominated for International Poet of the Year 2003 & 2004 by the US International Library of Poetry, and is featured in their Best Poets and Poems of 2003 and Whos Who of Poetry anthologies.
