MISSING this year's Tropfest Short Film Festival in Sydney may be a blessing in disguise for the nine-minute film Brigit and Benny (a modem faerietale), shot over three days at Mt Martha House.
Actor and filmmaker, Sally McLean said trimming the film back to Tropfest's six-minute limit would "compromise the flow of the story".
"So we decided to forego enter- ing Tropfest and prepare the film for the international festival market instead," she said.
The film has been entered into the 58th Cannes Film Festival, which runs May 11-22.
"I consulted with my Sydney- based executive producers, BrainBow Productions, who handle my feature films, and they suggested entering the film in Cannes, as they will be over there representing some of our other projects and would be happy to represent Brigit and Benny," Ms McLean said.
"While told in a modern s~tting, Brigit and Benny (a modem faerietaleJ is based on the principals of ancient fable and faerietales, and reminds us that although the times have changed, the essential goodness of people has not."
The nine-minute film involved a 27-member crew, 10 cast and 20 locals who were "background artists".
