Life Care Magazine
The Official Newsletter of MECWA Community Care
June 2001 No. 7
Mecwa is delighted to announce
that the winner of the Remarkable Person competition is Ms Margaret
Woodlock-McLean from Mornington. She wins an overnight accommodation
package at Araluen Lodge Bed & Breakfast Yarra Glen for two
people, plus lunch at Yering Station Winery. We thank both Araluen
Lodge and Yering Station for their generosity.
The Remarkable Person Competition
was run in conjunction with the Great Aussie Picnic to find an
older person in the community who typified Mecwas slogan
Age is only a moment in time.
Ms Woodlock-McLean was nominated
by her daughter Sally McLean who describes her as a role
model for people everywhere, young and not-so-young, and a truly
remarkable human being.
Sally, in her application,
writes Marg has affected many lives through her dedication
to excellence, her belief in other human beings and her desire
to see everyone succeed in chasing their dreams. She firmly believes
in encouraging and supporting the next generation, advocating
believing in yourself and your goals. She also actively supports
older people getting out into the community and having a voice
and a presence. She, herself, has led an amazing life so far,
and it just keeps getting more and more busy and interesting.
Marg represented Australia
in the 1956 Olympics in athletics. She competed in the 1990 and
1995 Vic Health Masters Games and is double gold medalist in
Shot Put and Discus. She is a serving member of the Victorian
Olympic Executive Committee and worked as a volunteer at the
Sydney Olympics.
For 56 years she has been actively
involved with the Australian Guiding Movement joining as a Brownie
in 1945 and has been awarded The Emu Award, one of that organisations
top National awards. She has been a member of Red Cross since
the age of 10. This year, she organised the 2001 Ausday Festival,
the Moomba Childrens activities and the Strictly Seniors
Ballroom Dance for Seniors week all in the space
of 3 months.
Her daughter tells us that
Marg never seeks the spotlight, always quietly working
in the background, getting the job done.
Marg, you truly are a remarkable
person. Congratulations on your prize, and thank you on behalf
of the community-at-large for your work.
