Working With Text/Understanding Stanislavski

Experience Level of Students Required:
Intermediate
(Those who have done "The Basics of Acting" are welcome in this class)

Acting is not just about turning up to a film set, stage or television studio, delivering some lines and then going home. One of the most important elements of any professional actor's work ethic, which goes on long before they set foot anywhere near a camera or audience is: research, preparation and a bit more research. This workshop is designed to help you look deeper into the character, script setting and writer's intention, beyond the lines on the page, using elements of the Stanislavski Technique that can be applied to any role in any script, to make your performance as real as you are.

What is the Stanislavski Technique? Is it the "Method Acting" we hear so much about? Well, it's most certainly where Lee Strasberg got that system from, along with Stella Adler and Stanford Meisner. All three were students of Stanislavski's and brought their knowledge back to their own students - with their own unique take on his work. To put it simply, Stanislavski is known as the "Father of Modern Acting", and any actor worth their salt, should know at least the basics of his system.

This class will explore the basic premise of Stanislavski's techniques for "real" or "naturalistic" acting, which are applicable to any part in any production, and have been used by actors, famous and infamous, (such as Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and James Dean) world-wide for the last fifty years.

Students will be asked to learn a scene, selected by the tutors prior to the class (which will be sent to them when they book a place).
