Actors on the Mornington Peninsula can train close to home and be part of a short film to add to their credits.

Actor and filmmaker, Sally McLean, started a series of weekly drama classes at Mt Martha House in January called "Acting Up at the House".

"The breadth of experience and talent among the students is amazing," Ms McLean said.

Three students have secured theatrical agent representation for film and television work, two have landed roles in VCA student films, two have appeared in lead roles in local theatre productions and two are now auditioning for the Victorian College of the Arts.

Term 4 is enrolling now, with students working towards an end of term theatre showcase, to be presented to an invited audience in December.

Term 4 students will be cast in a short film, written for the class as an exercise in working on film. The film, being made for Tropfest, will receive a seperate launch in early 2004.

Ms McLean has had roles in film, television and theatre in both Australia and the UK. She is a graduate of The Actors Institute in London and was most recently seen in the role of "Angie Powers" on the ABC in the BBC mini-series "Bootleg" and has just completed filming the lead role of "Camilla" in Angela Paraskevas' film "Without A Word".

The Acting Up classes cover audition technique, Stanislavski technique, characterisation, context, improvisation, voice and acting for the camera.

Alan Fletcher who plays "Dr. Karl Kennedy" on "Neighbours" will be taking a session during the course on the business of acting.

Term 4 will be running on Wednesday nights from 7.30 - 10pm for nine weeks, starting Wednesday, October 22 at Mt Martha House, Mt Martha.
