ACTING UP MASTERCLASS/WORKSHOP UPDATE
Audition Technique Masterclass
Due to my own work schedule, I have had to postpone the Audition Technique Masterclass to late July. Dates yet to be advised, but likely to be July 30 & 31st. I apologise again to the students who had booked. Obviously, due to the change of dates, a couple of students have had to cancel their bookings, so there are still a few places available.
I am in the process of negotiating with a Melbourne Casting Agent to see if they can attend the Sunday session and hold "mock" auditions with the students then give feedback. If this is possible, I will let you know via the next update. If you are interested in attending the masterclass, please let me know.
Please note: Beginners are also
welcome for this workshop, as it's best to get your audition technique
right before actually going out there to audition!
For more information, including class details and student criteria,
please visit the official Acting Up Masterclasses website: www.salmac.com/masterclasses/
To request more information, or apply for a place in a Masterclass,
please email Salmac Productions on actingup
at salmac.com.
Please note: You will be required to provide a CV/brief biography
of your previous acting work/training upon application for a place
in the masterclass, so the tutor can gauge your level of experience
and tailor the Masterclass to give the best value to all attending
students.
A quick plug for a couple of things I'm currently involved in, that may be of interest to you ...
First up, I am delighted to be one of twelve playwrights selected from around Victoria to be showcased at the upcoming inaugural Your Text Here at the Victorian Arts Centre, Melbourne. Among my fellow playwrights is former "Acting Up" student, Harry Paternoster.
Here are the details ...
YOUR TEXT HERE (BlackBox Theatre, Victorian Arts Centre)
Come see 12 monologues, written by experienced and up-and-coming writers, performed by professional actors.
Themes range from Camelot to Aussie blokes, affairs and intrigue to reincarnation, soldiers on the Kokoda Trail, and much more.
`Your Text Here' was designed to bring the rising stars of theatre into the forefront of Australian theatre. You can see it on Saturday 23 July at 8pm or on Sunday 24 July at 4pm. The venue: Blackbox Theatre at the VAC (behind Hamer Hall).
Tickets are $28.35 adult and $21.35 concession. Book through Ticketmaster7 on 1300 138 166 or online at www.ticketmaster7.com.au. Transaction fees may apply.
For more information go to www.roundtripproductions.com.au.
Secondly ...
MAKESHIFT ORIGINAL THEATRE (Samuel Sherlock Hall, Frankston)
Speaking of Harry Paternoster, some of you may not be aware of his group, MakeShift Original Theatre who meet every Wednesday night to workshop, read and present new film and theatre scripts provided by local writers.
I was delighted to be invited to read the role of "Alice" in Phillipa Clark and David Higgins' feature film script, Paddy's Lighthouse, last week. There was a cast of about fifteen and an audience of about thirty in attendance, and a great time was had by all.
Doing readings like this is great experience for actors, no matter what their level of expertise, and I highly recommend Makeshift Theatre as a forum to gain experience and hone these important skills. Many Acting Up students attend these evenings and it's great to see them continuing to keep their skills sharp in this way!
If you're interested in joining the group (as either an actor or writer), here are the details:
Dates: Every Wednesday night
Venue: Samuel Sherlock Hall, Quality Street, Frankston VIC
Times: 7.00 or 7.30pm start (depending on what's being read that
night)
For more information, call: (03) 5976 1695 or email: harrytheox at hotmail.com
Upcoming readings include David Higgins' Halfworld - taking place in August. For more information about the film, visit the film's official website, HERE.
And so that's it from me. I hope this email finds everyone well, busy and happy, and I look forward to catching up with you soon!
'Til then ...
Cheers,
Sally McLean
