Revision to "The Business of Auditioning (TV)" workshop

Due to the craziness of this time of year, which means that things come up that can't be avoided (namely, in my case, a trip to Sydney for work from December 2 to 5), The Business of Auditioning Workshop has been revised to a one day intensive on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10.

I hope you'll all forgive the sudden change of plans. Those who have already booked in, I have spoken to all of you (please call me if I haven't!), and I thank you for your patience. Those who were asking if they could come to just one of the days - well, you got your wish!

I have a few places left on the course, so if you'd like to come along, please email me asap to ensure a place. WAAPA Graduate, Sarah Penn will be present on the afternoon during the auditions to help students do any last-minute rehearsing of their scenes (as well as alternating with me as the Reader in the audition itself).

Just to remind you what the course will entail:

The Business of Auditioning (TV)

The morning will be spent preparing an audition scene, discussion of the professional audition process as a whole and CV and headshot preparation (the "tools" of the trade).

In the afternoon, students will undertake an audition with Melbourne Film & Television Casting Director, Jo Rippon (Casting Director for Scooter Secret Agent, Fergus McPhail, Wicked Science, Pirate Islands, Backberner, Horace & Tina, My Brother Jack, The Games, Thunderstone I II & III, Ocean Girl IV, Ocean Girl I & II, Frontline (Pilot) and Kelly I & II, as well as the feature films: Parts Of A Horse, The Wogboy and The Hard Word (Extras)), which will be put on tape, concluding with feedback on their work.

2006 Acting Up Workshops Announced

Plans are underway for a great year of workshops with the Acting Up series of classes, with various industry professionals already committed to taking workshops with the students over the next few months.

We are delighted to announce that we already have the first three workshops for 2006 lined up - dates are yet to be confirmed, but will be announced in December.

-----------------------------------------------

So, You Want To Be In A Soap? (TV verses Theatre Technique)

This workshop will take place in May. I am very happy to announce that our Guest Tutor for this workshop will be Australian Television and Theatre actress, Marisa Warrington.

Marisa is best known for her long-running role of "Cindy" on Neighbours. Less well-known is her work playing leads for the Australian Shakespeare Company, on tours all around the country, including their seasons of Shakespeare in the Park in the Royal Botanical Gardens, Melbourne, as well as her training with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in London, UK.

Marisa will be talking to the students about her experiences working in both mediums, the adjustments required when going from performing Shakespeare to Soap, and answer questions about how to make the transition from theatre to television. Students will be given scenes to be performed first in a theatre style, and then in the style required for television, which will be put on tape.

-----------------------------------------------

The Business of Auditioning (Film)

This workshop will take place in July. I am thrilled to announce that our Guest Tutor will be the well-respected and influencial Casting Director, Dina Mann.

Dina's credits as Casting Director include: Widower, CrashBurn, Japanese Story, Mallboy, Waiting At The Royal, Head On, The Missing, Crackers and Road To Nhill. She is also in great demand as a drama/dialogue coach for film and television, working with various respected drama institutions such as TAFTA, The Rehearsal Room, Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and others.

Students will work with Dina on their audition technique for film, and have the chance to ask questions about the audition process and working on screen. Students will then put a scene on tape.

-----------------------------------------------

So, 2006 is lining up to be a great year for those who wish to expand their knowledge of their craft, and want to work with industry professionals in a small group environment. It's also a great way to network and kick-start your professional acting career (or just revitalise it!).

I am taking expressions of interest for all workshops, so email me if you'd like to have first option for any of the workshops on offer. It will be a case of "First In, Best Dressed" as they say!
