Walking
the Pathways to Peace
is an online initiative originating on the Mornington Peninsula,
Victoria, Australia.
WHAT
THIS SITE IS ABOUT
Our mission is to support and
promote the efforts of various individuals in their pursuit of
local and global peace, who are leading by peaceful example,
and to celebrate the strength found in our cultural diversity
as Australians.
This site, and those behind
it, are not affiliated with any group, organization, religion,
political party or cause, other than that of peace and cultural
diversity. We are independent individuals who chose to work together
as an informal group promoting non violence and peace.
While you are with us on the
web, we invite you to contribute your own thoughts about peace
in The Peace Book - an online
record of thoughts and feelings about peace from all over the
globe.

HOW
WE GOT STARTED
Our inaugural project was the
Mornington
Peninsula Peace Vigil 2001, held on October 27th, 2001 at "Seawinds Gardens", Arthurs
Seat, with special guest speaker William Kelly, Fullbright Fellow, founder of the Archive of
Humanist Art, former Dean of the Victorian College of the Arts
and recipient of the Australian Violence Prevention Award from
the Prime Minister, and under the patronage of Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and co-founder
of The MK Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence.
The night was a great success,
with strong support from the local media and a good turn out
from the general public. Organizers Sally McLean and Christine
Nagorcka were delighted with the response and support for the
event, and thank all those who donated materials, promoted the
event and attended.

WHAT
WE'RE DOING NOW
In the lull between organised
peace vigils in our community, this site stands as a 24 hour,
7 days a week online vigil for the wish for global peace.
On this site, you'll find Quotes About Peace, Supporters
of our events, Peace Products,
UN Peace Days, Press
Coverage of our events, information about Our
Logo and other Web Sites for
Peace, as well as suggestions for What
You Can Do right now to help the peace process.
CURRENT ISSUE: THE WAR ON IRAQ
Our resolve and commitment
to peace continues to face one of its greatest tests right now.
Very few believe that Saddam
Hussein and his government was in the right. We certainly don't,
but we also don't believe that war is the answer to this crisis.
We are also concerned about how this war has affected stability
in the Middle East, and what our world leaders are doing to ensure
that a major humanitarian crisis doesn't follow their actions
in Iraq. We have compiled various ways other like-minded individuals
can express their thoughts and ask their questions, which you
will find here.

PEACE
NEWS UPDATE
Australian actor, Alan Fletcher,
has written a brilliant song called "Perfectly Comfortable"
with Chris Pettifer, which you can listen to and download from
his official site here.
We encourage you to listen
to the song and take in the message it contains - what will this
war do to our children and the children directly in the line
of fire? They are our future, so what will result from our example
of waging war? Are you perfectly comfortable with any child,
anywhere having to deal with and accept war and all it entails?
Ask yourself, what kind of adults are we creating when we teach
them that war is acceptable? What will our future be as a result?
We hope you enjoy your time
here with us and gain some inspiration, feel lifted or just find
some food for thought.
Thank you for joining our online
peace vigil, and may peace go with you.
