The Peace Council is a diverse group of religious and spiritual
individuals who are internationally known and respected and who
have decided to come together. The Peace Council is committed
to working together for the common needs of the whole community
of life. The Council will build bridges through the message of
non-violence, compassion, human rights, and universal responsibility,
individual and collective.
Truth and Reconciliation Commission (South
Africa)
The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was
set up by the Government of National Unity to help deal with
what happened under apartheid. The conflict during this period
resulted in violence and human rights abuses from all sides.
No section of society escaped these abuses.
The Peace People (Northern
Ireland)
Nonviolence is at the centre of the Peace People's approach to
building a just and peaceful society ... we mean much more by
this than simply the absence of physical violence. We draw our
inspiration from historical figures such as Mahatma Gandhi and
Martin Luther King. While the history of Ireland often seems
to have been dominated by violent conflict, there have also been
many examples of nonviolent campaigns.
Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (USA)
At the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation,
we are committed to creating a peaceful world -- one with liberty,
justice and dignity for all. We believe that there are better
ways to resolve conflicts than killing each other, and that we
can find ways to bring an end to warfare.
Nobel e-Museum Peace Prize section (Norway)
Peace is one of the five prize areas mentioned in Alfred Nobel's
will. Nobel simply stated that prizes be given to those who,
during the preceding year, "shall have conferred the greatest
benefit on mankind" and that one part be given to the person
who "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity
between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies
and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
The M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence (USA)
The Mission of the Gandhi Institute ...
is to promote and apply the principles of nonviolence locally,
nationally, and globally, to prevent violence and resolve personal
and public conflicts through research, education, and programming.
The Institute, founded by Arun Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi's grandson)
and his wife Sunanda, was established to promote and teach the
philosophy and practice of nonviolence to help reduce the violence
that consumes our hearts, our homes, and our societies.
The Archive of Humanist Art (Australia)
The ARCHIVE OF HUMANIST ART is an artist-initiated project. It
was established by the artist William Kelly in 2000. It aims
to look to the future of art and the world while acknowledging
those artists and thinkers who have helped us to a greater understanding
of our place as human beings. It is a collection of works by
artists working at the turn of the century/millennium whose art
and beliefs support the notion that there is a fundamental connection
between the images we make and the world we create.
Pathways to Peace (USA)
Pathways To Peace (PTP) is an international not-for-profit peace
building, educational, and consulting organization. The mission
of Pathways To Peace is threefold: to expand the comprehension
and substantive expression of "PEACE" and peacebuilding
practices at all levels; to build Cultures of Peace by uniting
and enhancing the strengths of existing organizations and programs
along eight paths to Peace; to contribute, through consultation
and direct participation, to the evolving mission of the United
Nations and to citizens worldwide participation in the
International Day of Peace (Hear The Children Day). Pathways
To Peace has Consultative II Status with the United Nations Economic
and Social Council, and works with the U.N. Centre for Human
Rights, U.N. Centre for Human Settlements, UNESCO, UNICEF, and
other Agencies. It is also an official Peace Messenger of the
United Nations.

of Action on a Culture of Peace, has called for a global movement
beginning with the International Year for the Culture of Peace
(2000) and continuing with the International Decade for a Culture

This site was initiated by Australian actors Kerry Armstrong,

An online protest that became an offline phenomenon - Poets Against
The War is lead by American Poet, Sam Hamill, and houses over
